The Tampa Bay Rays might have traded away some pitching this off-season gut the core of greatness remains in David Price, the man they will build yet another winner around. No matter the mix of players, the Rays seem to always put a winning and contending team out there. Price is one of the large reasons for that. After winning the Cy-Young award for the American League, Price returns to baseball not anxious for anything but willing to throw his pitches, get his work in and do his job.

You know what? That is probably one of the many reasons why he is just that good. He went out and blanked a team recently in Spring Training. Sure spring games don’t mean a lot but you would rather your ace pitcher throw three shutout frames than give up eight. In other words, Price looks the same way he did last season: dominant. I’m sure he’ll work on a pitch or two in the next few starts and might even give up a run.

Make no mistake about this guy though; the Rays still have their best pitcher from a year ago. A year ago he was everyone’s best pitcher of course. He very well could win the same award this year with the Rays and help they shock the entire American League East once again. How is it that they can put a winning team out so often and still be a surprise? I’m not sure but don’t be surprised when Price wins the Cy-Young or threatens to again this year.
