Chicago Cubs: Wrigley Field Bleachers
Many diehard Chicago Cubs fans think the best seat at Wrigley is in the bleachers. I disagree.
Let’s take a look at some of the advantages in the bleachers first. The sunshine and party atmosphere make watching a game in the bleachers an experience to remember. There is a lot of history and tradition when it comes to sitting there. Tickets are also less expensive than the regular seats.
However, there are some issues that come with sitting in the bleachers and I think those issues overshadow the fun time promised by the bleacher bums.
My main issue with the bleachers is there are no seat backs. Watching a game for three hours while either standing or squirming for a comfortable position makes for a very long game. There is also no shade in sight. When you combine three or more hours drinking Old Style in the sun with no comfortable seat, you will be exhausted after the game.
In my humble opinion, the best seats at Wrigley are the Infield Club Box seats down the first base line in sections 26-31. In these sections you have the best view of the field without sacrificing some sort of obstruction to get your view. While sitting in these sections, you are as close as you can get to field level so you get a player’s view of the game. As the sun goes down later in the game, you also get some shade.
The only disadvantage to sitting here is that you are not in position to see where the pitch crosses the plate. From the bleachers, you can call pitches as well as the umpire can.
I have always believed there is no bad seat at Wrigley Field. I have been in the top row of the upper deck, the first row at first base and all over in the bleachers. Any time you can watch a game live, you are having a good day, but my opinion is that you can find a more comfortable place to sit than out in the bleachers.
