Adam Jones is the all-star center fielder for the Baltimore Orioles. He might not be the most well known center fielder in the game but he is certainly one of the best. Unfortunately not everyone gets to see just what he can do for a team. This spring he will be playing outfield for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. For Jones, this could be a great opportunity to show the baseball world and the world at large what he can do.

In addition to being able to showcase his talents on a worldwide stage, Jones will be able to play competitive baseball earlier than his teammates who are still playing in spring training games that are mainly for getting work in. Jones has said he feels good and is ready physically. Not only does that mean he will be able to avoid careless injury but also he will be ready to give his all for the team.

By the time he gets back to the Orioles clubhouse he will be raring to go play regular season games. He’ll be in mid-season form by the beginning of May if things go the way they should. I’m no super fan of the World Baseball Classic, especially the way it interferes with Spring Training. For some players though, like Jones, it can be used as an opportunity in many ways. Jones didn’t have a bad year last season but it will be interesting to see if he plays even better this year, since he will be playing at full season speed when the flag drops on the 2013 baseball season.
