This will be the first season Mark Reynolds plays for the Cleveland Indians. Reynolds is a good addition for the Indians just like he is but he could be worth a lot more with a few slight improvements. He has struggled to hit over the .220 mark for average in his career but still manages to be productive for the most part. What is the change that the Indians need from Reynolds?
Quite simply they need him to have better at-bats. Reynolds has had three seasons where he struck out over 200 times and one with 198. For his career Reynolds has averaged a strikeout roughly every third time he is at the plate. Still he has had one season over 40 homers and two over thirty. He’s good for seventy or so RBI on average and has one season over 100. Last season the strikeouts seemed to take their toll a little as his numbers dropped.
Imagine what kind of production Reynolds could be capable of if he cut down on the strikeouts. He already proved he could drive in 80 to 100 runs and strikeout 200 times. Even if his homers dropped, he might be capable of ten to twenty more RBI and who knows how many more runs if he put a few more good at-bats on some pitchers. Terry Francona has a way of bringing out the best in his players. It will be interesting to see how playing for this Indians team affects Reynolds.
