The World Baseball Classic was the talk of the town after the bench clearing brawl between Team Canada and Team Mexico. The dust up wasn’t your typical baseball brawl as both teams threw bombs and haymakers at one another. The Canadians resorted back to their hockey roots dropping the gloves and pulling jerseys over the heads of Team Mexico players. The video footage of the debacle proved Canada not only won the game on the scoreboard but in the brewhaha as well.
The social media world was abuzz yesterday after the incident and even included props from Don Cherry on Hockey Night in Canada who acknowledged the efforts of Team Canada.
Here is some of the reaction from members of Team Canada.
Team Canada Manager Ernie Whitt was asked at the press conference if any members of Team Canada were injured to which Whitt replied: “You can’t hurt us Canadians”. The last time I checked Whitt was American.
First base coach Larry Walker “I let go of Adrian Gonzalez and grabbed that guy Aceves and I swear I thought I saw Satan in his eyes.”
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jim Henderson tweeted “Every run matters in this tournament. Just the way it is. Proud to be a part of this team. We won’t go down without a fight.”
Pitcher Jay Johnson who was in the middle of the brawl tweeted “Don Cherry @CoachsCornerCBC that’s right on. USA tomorrow to advance”.
Team Canada catcher Chris Robinson who laid down the bunt that ignited the events tweeted “ Boys are overwhelmed by the support…lots of fight in this team (literally). Do or die tomorrow…can’t wait. #teamcfamily #cdnpride”
Leadoff hitter Tyson Gillies tweeted “It’s a game and things get heated up..it’s over with and just be glad nobody was hurt! #protectingtheFAM”
Team Mexico went to a baseball game and a hockey game broke out.
