The Colorado Rockies bullpen had a pretty solid ERA last season. Still, there are always a few positions up for grabs in any bullpen. With that in mind, Edgmer Escalona plans do to everything in his power to win a job at the big league level. See, Escalona is out of minor league options so if he doesn’t make the team this time, things don’t look that good for the immediate future. The good news is that Escalona has good stuff. The bad news is that nothing is for sure and unfortunately Major League Baseball is a business.
Though it looks like a sport, even a family sport from the outside looking in, looks are deceiving. Sometimes everything works out for the best for everyone on a baseball team. Everyone has a chance to play somewhere, even if it’s not at the big level. Sometimes that isn’t the case. Baseball is about money. Money comes when teams win. Winning comes with the right combinations in the locker room and on the field. Whether or not Escalona fits that mold somewhere for the Rockies, I cannot say.
What I can say with a fair amount of certainty is that Escalona has enough talent and potential to really make waves at the major league level. Perhaps Colorado would even be the perfect place for him to make his presence felt. That would be because he is a power pitcher with sinking stuff. Sinking stuff leads to ground balls when it’s good. Ground balls don’t get caught up in the thin air. You get the picture. Honestly, any ballpark is harder to hit homers in when the ball stays on the ground.
