Ben Revere Ready to Take Step Forward for Philadelphia Phillies
The Minnesota Twins decided to trade Ben Revere and the Philadelphia Phillies were the lucky winning team. Revere is a promising young center fielder with speed to burn and is a potential gold glover. The Phillies were reforming their outfield anyway and Revere couldn’t be a more perfect fit where Juan Pierre once patrolled in center.
Revere is going to be a lot like Pierre in the way he plays. He is extremely quick and able to steal thirty plus bases per season quite easily. He is more likely to hit three inside the part homers than ten regular homers at this point but a power stroke could still develop because he is so young. If it does then he might reach ten or fifteen per year. The consummate leadoff man, Revere will be more focused on runs scored than RBI but he is definitely capable of producing runs.
He has improved each season he has been with the Twins. Two seasons with over 100 games played and last season saw his average climb to .294 with an on-base percentage of .333. He doesn’t strikeout much and is good at getting the bat to the ball. Once it’s in play anything can happen with speed.
This season the Phillies would love to see that average climb a little over .300 and the on-base percentage to climb quite a bit higher. If that happens, look for Revere to not only be playing center field for the Phillies but possibly also the National League All-star team.
