I’m not sure if you are a constant reader of material on the San Francisco Giants and a huge fan of theirs, or just happening across a web page. If you are just tuning in to the Giants, I have some news for you. They are good. More specifically their pitching staff is pretty stinking good. Yet more specific still, Matt Cain is one of the better pitchers in all of Major League Baseball. He is the ace of the Giants staff and is slotted to pitch opening day against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Again, in case you are just beginning to like baseball, the Dodgers are good too and also have good pitching. Their ace pitcher Clayton Kershaw is also one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. He and Cain have yet one more thing in common in that they are both pitching the opening day game as the respective aces of their team’s pitching staff.

Now that everyone is up to date; how awesome is this game going to be! These guys might as well trade Cy-Young winning seasons back and forth. The two of them on the same team would be at least as great a pairing as the legendary Tom GlavineGreg Maddux combo. Seriously that is far from an understatement. They are that good at this game. To have them facing each other on opening day is one of the better stories of the season.

Cain seems to be more than ready to go. He is fine tuning his mechanics in each of his starts now and over the next two will stretch out to more pitches. Even though he is only almost 100 percent, he already has awesome control over his stuff. His misses aren’t missing by much and his ERA is respectable for this point in the spring. Come opening day, there will be two potentially great pitchers facing each other. One of them for sure looks ready to go and that is Matt Cain.
