It is fairly standard to see trade rumors come and go during any Major League Baseball off-season. That is especially true during the winter meetings in December. The Kansas City Royals were the subject of several deals and rumors of deals. The most ridiculous of all was the rumor that they wanted to trade Billy Butler to the Seattle Mariners. Why in the world would the Royals want to trade Butler?

Last season was Butler’s best yet and he remains the Royals best power hitter. Over 100 runs driven in and 29 long balls speak for themselves. Butler is young and still on the rise as far as his career goes. Sure, he plays mostly in the designated hitter position, but in the American League that is of course very important. Regardless of any of the rumors that were floating around, Butler showed up to spring training this season ready for a great year once again and it looks like he is going to have one.

The spring has him batting .319 with 14 RBI and ten runs scored so far. Needless to say, Butler is on fire and ready to hit the season gate running. Nowhere in anyone’s mind has their apparently been any thought of trading this guy. Why would there be? Rumors are one thing but come on, the Royals are not thinking of trading Butler. If they ever do, the fans should revolt and sign a petition to trade the GM and keep Butler.
