When you think of Barry Zito, you probably still see him in an Oakland Athletics uniform. Those were the best seasons of his career, including one Cy-Young award winning campaign. His time with the San Francisco Giants has been a little rocky. Three years ago he only won a handful of games and his season was worse and shortened two years ago. Last season was a big bounce-back for Zito but he looks ready to do even more in 2013.

When his stuff is clicking, Zito can still be a dominant pitcher against any team. Some things have changed. He is older of course but not ancient. He is far from the ace of the staff though he does still have ace type potential inside. Last season was a huge year for him. Even though his ERA was over four, he still won fourteen games and proved that he had years left in that arm.

This spring he looks to be getting prepared for an even better year than last. His confidence level is higher and his stuff looks sharper. I’m not willing to bet on his success this season but some probably will be. Zito is definitely going to give the Giants a strong season from his veteran pitching arm. He’ll eat innings and give them a chance to win. With things moving in a really good direction for him this spring, he might do more than that.
