Chicago Cubs Ace Jeff Samardzija Strikes out Seven and Homers

At one time, current Chicago Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija was a good reliever. In what seems like record time, Samardzija has transformed himself into not only a decent starting pitcher but the ace of the Cubs pitching staff. His most recent outing was very impressive and he hit a solo homer as well. Can the Cubs new ace carry this momentum through the season and not tire like he did late in 2012?

It isn’t hard to imagine why Samardzija ran out of steam a bit at the end of last season. There was a point when his numbers clearly began to climb and that is the point when you can easily say that he began to be fatigued. It is really no different than a minor league starting pitcher that isn’t accustomed to throwing close to 200 innings. The next season the arm is stronger for longer and the pitcher can really show his worth.

That will be the case this season with Samardzija. I think the Cubs fans are going to find themselves loving this guy more and more. He has a fun look about him and enjoys playing the game. Not only is he a great pitcher with very impressive stuff that could strikeout anyone in the major leagues, but he can hit. The long ball he hit recently wasn’t just over the fence down the line. It carried a good few feet beyond the wall.

Basically, the more I see of this guy the more I see how well the Cubs are going like him. Hopefully he won’t have any issues with injury and can just enjoy the wonderful feeling of being adored by some of the greatest baseball fans on earth, those of the Cubs. Good luck, Samardzija.
