Mark Prior Trying to Prove to Cincinnati Reds that He Still Has It
It is official. The 2013 spring training sees Mark Prior trying to return to the roster of a major league team once again. The Cincinnati Reds signed Prior to a minor deal to allow him to prove whether or not he still had what it takes to pitch in Major League Baseball. This is far from the first attempt and actually appears to be just another long shot Prior is taking to try and make a team. Something might be different this time though.
So far he has only showed up once during the spring to pitch to major league batters but it was successful. He threw one inning that was perfect other than one hit batsman. One inning doesn’t necessarily mean anything but for Prior it could. He isn’t tuning up for the season; this is his baseball life on the line once again. To his credit, Prior is as cool as a cucumber about the whole thing.
He said that he has expectations too far out, that he is just trying to pitch well. I will admit that I am far from on the Prior bandwagon. I am standing off to the side of the bandwagon with my arms crossed, scowling at it. Honestly, I have severe doubts about what he can still do at the major league level. Having said that, I will be the first one to say my doubts were unfounded if he finds his way to MLB success once again.
