5 Reasons Why Arizona Diamondbacks Win NL West in 2013

n
Matt Kartozian-USA Today Sports

The Arizona Diamondbacks had high expectations coming into the 2012 season after winning the division crown in the 2011 season. The expectations that the Diamondbacks had were not met, and most of the season was a disappointment as the team was never able to sustain a long winning streak and finished the season in 3rd place in the NL West division behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and the eventual World Series champion San Francisco Giants with a .500 record of 81-81.

The season for the Diamondbacks was not a total loss as there were some bright spots for the team coming from Aaron Hill regaining his offensive groove that he had a couple of seasons ago with the Toronto Blue Jays. There was also Wade Miley becoming the most consistent starting pitcher on the team and leading the pitching staff in wins with 16. The Diamondback fans also got a small sample of what they can expect from outfield prospect Adam Eaton.

The Diamondbacks have reasons to believe that the 2013 season will be better than the past season. They made some significant additions to their team, but they got rid of some players to make the team better for the future. They traded away their best player in outfielder Justin Upton to acquire a player that puts the ball in play more and strikes out less with third baseman Martin Prado. They signed veteran starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy to provide some stability for the back end portion of the rotation.

There are five reasons why the Diamondbacks will be able to win the NL West division and go deep into the playoffs this season.
