It is no secret that Jair Jurrjens has had some injury issues that have hurt the sparkling career path that he was on before with the Atlanta Braves. As he fights for the final starting job in the Baltimore Orioles rotation, Jurrjens is starting to show signs of his former success. That could be all the Orioles need to see in order to give him the starting nod. In fact, it is all they should need to see and they should give him the job.
Jurrjens isn’t some mid-level talent that has had an off year or two. This guy has the potential to be an ace of a staff in the next few years if he gets his stuff back where it was pre-injury. His new chance with the Orioles is an opportunity that he appears to be taking full advantage of. It hasn’t been a spotless spring for Jurrjens but he has certainly shown exactly what he had to show to let the Orioles know he is on the right path.
If I were the Orioles, I would not let this guy slip through my fingers. Jurrjens is a complete steal if he can right the ship mechanically. He can be as dominating as any pitcher in Major League Baseball and would be the perfect choice for the fifth slot in their rotation. The Orioles have very little to lose and a ton to gain if Jurrjens continues showing that he is close to regaining his old form.
Very quickly he could be making a name for himself as one of the comeback stories of the season. Whether or not he comes all the way back to his previous form or just does better, I believe Jurrjens to be the correct choice for Orioles fifth starter. He would not disappoint.
