No one likes to see a guy go down with a serious injury. Sometimes it is so obvious that a guy is hurt badly that everyone cringes. That was the scene when Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Wilson Betemit went down between first and second base. His knee hyper extended in an ugly way and it appeared to be a very serious injury. Betemit was quoted saying that he thought he broke everything in his knee. The scene certain looked like it as well.
When they went for the MRI, there was good news that he would only miss six to eight weeks with a grade 2 PCL tear. Those do not require surgery so a few weeks of rehab should have things stretched nice and tight once again. For Betemit though, this could be another bad sign for the 2013 season.
Last year wasn’t a lot of fun for him because he had a wrist injury and then had rib troubles towards the end of the year. He only took part in 102 games for the Orioles in 2012 and he had hoped that things would look better this season. With this PCL injury, he appears to be lucky. Is he? Or is it another sign that Betemit has become bitten by the injury bug?
Considering how bad this injury looked, I would take it as a good sign if I were Betemit and the Orioles. This looked like something that could have sidelined him for an entire season and yet he will only miss a handful of weeks. Maybe when he comes back from rehabbing the knee, he will stay healthy for the remainder of 2013 and show what he can do when fully healthy.
