Can New York Yankees Withstand Charge by Teams in AL East?

The New York Yankees win. That’s what they do. Their job isn’t to do their best or give it their best shot, they are expected to win their division and give a strong push towards the World Series title every single season. Last year they won the American League East and lost in the playoffs. This season, they might have a tough time just winning the pennant.

The Eastern division is shaping up to be a tough one. The Baltimore Orioles were the story a year ago and plan to take the next step towards the division crown in 2013. They have the talent to do it for sure. During the off-season the biggest story in the American League was the changes made by the Toronto Blue Jays. They brought in R.A. Dickey and plenty of other players to make it very clear where their aim was this season. Frankly, they did a great job of it and unless the stars don’t mesh well, they should be tough to beat.

Through all of that the Yankees have dealt with injuries. Derek Jeter is still out and probably still several days away from any baseball action at all. It will be a little while before he makes his way back. On the good side of things, C.C. Sabathia looks to be a strong leader going into the year and Andy Pettitte looks as sharp as he has in a long while. I don’t think the injuries will keep them down for long enough to fall behind in the East. Basically, no matter what the other teams did during the off-season, the AL East still belongs to the Yankees until someone takes it from them.
