The Los Angeles Angels will kick off their 2013 season opener against the National League powerhouse Cincinnati Reds. The game will feature two of the league’s premier pitchers facing off against one another for the first time.
The Angels ace, Jered Weaver will toe the rubber at The Great American Ballpark against a man he has never matched up against in his 207 previous career major league starts. That man will be none other than 19 game winner Johnny Cueto.
Weaver is coming off another Cy Young worthy campaign where he went 20-5 with a 2.81 earned run average and a 1.018 WHIP in 30 starts last season. The ace will look to get the season started off on the right foot for the Angels in a season full of promise.
The Reds are countering with their Cy Young worthy ace Johnny Cueto who led the Reds last season with a 19-9 record with a 2.78 earned run average and a WHIP of 1.171.
Both men will face one another for the first time on the mound and at the plate as Weaver will have to swing a stick in the National League park. This series could be a little foreshadowing of a potential World Series match-up between the two baseball heavyweights.
The Angels and Reds have only battled in two previous series against one another with the Angels owning the slight edge.
