Meet Arizona Diamondbacks Starting 5 Pitchers
Meet the Arizona Diamondbacks Starting 5 Pitchers
The Arizona Diamondbacks will begin the 2013 season by returning three of their five starting pitchers from a season ago. They have Ian Kennedy, Trevor Cahill and Wade Miley returning to the staff in 2013.
The Diamondbacks last season had a 4.26 ERA from their starting rotation that had them ranked 12th in the National League in this category. The Diamondbacks starters will need to show some consistency this season if they hope to return to the playoffs.
The Diamondbacks decided that they needed a veteran starter on their staff this season to compliment the young pitchers that they have in their rotation. They went out and signed veteran free-agent pitcher Brandon McCarthy during the offseason.
The Diamondbacks still needed a fifth starter for their rotation, they had a competition in spring training between three pitchers that would earn an opportunity to be their fifth starter when the season began. The three pitchers that were competing for the final rotation spot are Patrick Corbin, Randall Delgado and Tyler Skaggs.
The Diamondbacks are in a division that features teams who have great offensive players to go along with even better starting pitchers. Arizona has a starting rotation which does not have one true ace, but the rotation as a whole will be competitive throughout the season.
The Diamondbacks do have one advantage that other clubs in the division do not have, and that is they have a minor league system that is loaded with pitching prospects.
So these will be the Diamondbacks starting five pitchers who will be on the mound when the season starts for the Diamondbacks on April 1.
