Washington Nationals Complete Sweep and Head to First Test of Season

Another great performance by a Washington Nationals starting pitcher allowed them to complete the sweep of the Miami Marlins on Thursday afternoon. Things are looking pretty good so far in D.C. with the Nationals a perfect 3 – 0 including two shutouts. They could have scored more runs for sure in the first two but rebounded a bit in the final game. Still the test they face next will require them to buckle down and play even better.

The Cincinnati Reds might not be looked at as a great pitching team but they sure shut down the Los Angeles Angels for the most part as they won two out of three games there. They proved themselves fighters that can score runs and keep the other team from scoring. That might be a big problem for the Nationals. So far they have not really been tested. The Marlins only scored one run in the series and it looked like for a while the Nationals pitchers were more capable offensively than their entire opponents were.

Against the Reds they will need output more like they had on Thursday when they finally put up six runs on the board. The Nationals are clearly good but as the final spots in the rotation face the tough Reds team, some holes might show up in the Nats armor. The big game for the Nationals will be Sunday’s showdown between Stephen Strasburg and Johnny Cueto. That will be a huge test for both teams. Friday and Saturday will be the days that allow the Nationals to see exactly how good they can be.
