It was a small-ball game until the bottom of the eighth inning. When Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis walked up with bases loaded it was as if we knew what was about to happen. Davis smacked a grand slam in left center field to beat the Minnesota Twins 9-5.

The Twins played good ball and were leading 5-4. Both teams were aggressive on the base paths and had played solid defense. The Twins really have a good team, beating the Detroit Tigers two out of three in their season opener.

The Orioles began the year playing the Tampa Bay Rays. The Orioles won two out of three, behind Davis’ power-ball numbers. He has been like a man on fire with a .636 BA and 11 RBIs. It seemed he liked the number three with three homers and three doubles against the Rays. How could he top that?

Today the Orioles had their home opener against the Twins. Davis decided four was his lucky number. In these first four games he has hit a home run in every game, and the fourth home run was the four-RBI grand slam. Davis said after the game “The fans were great and the place was electric.” He went on to say, “I feel real comfortable.”

No doubt — that is bad news for the Twins. They played well enough to beat anyone else except for the Orioles. Baltimore is crushing the ball. Adam Jones had another big day, but Davis is a one man wrecking crew. The Orioles look like the best team in Major League Baseball right now, and until someone can cool down Davis’ bat, the Orioles will keep winning.
