He was one of the bigger stories of the first of the off-season but faded some as he continued to not get a new team to play for. After waiting all winter to find his new home, Michael Bourn has not disappointed in his new uniform with the Cleveland Indians. There was already much movement in the Indians clubhouse at the time so one more new face wasn’t a huge thing. The money he made to come to the team might have been a little bigger deal however.
Staying away from the amount of money he got paid, Bourn has been nothing short of everything the Indians could hope for him to be. So far in the young season he is batting .344 with 19 total bases to his credit. All total he has been on base 13 times and has come around to score five of those. In short, he is being the lead-off man the Indians needed when they brought him in. There is no doubt that the Tribe has stepped way up with the signing of Bourn.
Now if they could get some of the guys behind him to continuously drive him in and improve the pitching a touch, things might be much better. Although it must be said that the American League Central is a tough division and the .500 mark isn’t something to be ashamed of at this point in the season. As they put the pieces together and attempt to create a winning formula in Cleveland, you had better bet that Bourn will be at the very center of anything they do.
