Colorado Rockies Humbled by San Francisco Giants but Still Strong
Just a few games ago the Colorado Rockies were blowing into San Francisco intent upon showing the baseball world that they were for real and that they had what it takes to beat the World Champs. Well, they didn’t. They got swept actually by the San Francisco Giants. Rarely are there good things to take away from being swept in a three game series but I think the Rockies can feel pretty good about themselves.
First of all they proved that they can compete with the big boys away from their home field. That is very important for a team that is always accused of being lucky to have a home field in light air. Though they didn’t come away with a victory, they did lead at least one good time. There are things that they now know they need to work on as well. That is another important thing about playing a great team like the Giants.
Probably most important of all however is the simple fact that they are only one game from the struggle at the top of the National League Western division. That goes to show how well they played going into the series. They proved they can hit the Giants good pitching and that they have work to do in the pen in a few spots. Most of all they proved why teams like the Washington Nationals and the St. Luis Cardinals are going to be tough this season. When flaws show up in the team’s armor they go about the business of fixing it. That is how Walt Weiss is building his team into a winner.
