Diamondbacks Patrick Corbin Could not Have More Difficult Second Start
Patrick Corbin is going to have his second start on Friday night for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Corbin was chosen as the fifth starter for the Diamondbacks for a reason but the opponent he drew in his second start this season is not an enviable one. On the surface it looks okay but once you get deeper, the Los Angeles Dodgers aren’t a team that Corbin would want on this night.
Both teams are 6-3 and have played pretty well thus far. On paper they are even kind of evenly matched in some ways. Corbin’s trouble tonight comes for two reasons. First of all the Dodgers are still amped up and pumped up after the ridiculous actions of Carlos Quentin injured Zack Greinke. They are more of a team now than they were before last night. Things like that draw teams together and the Dodgers are no different.
That is the first reason. Reason number two is that the Dodgers are riding a streak where they have won five of their last six games. Corbin and the Dbacks surely are not scared to play the Dodgers but a hot and angry team that has been on a roll isn’t really the best choice for a second start. Corbin was up to the task of pitching to the Dodgers last season and came out with a 1-1 record.
While that might give him some rosy feelings about facing the boys in blue tonight, the fact that his opposing pitcher is Dodger ace Clayton Kershaw certainly won’t. Some think it is debatable if Kershaw will give up any runs this season. Corbin will need to be on his best game and have his best stuff to avoid getting whooped tonight.
One positive thing is that the Dodgers haven’t really provided a ton of run support for Kershaw. If Corbin comes out of this game with a win, he will more than prove himself a major leaguer in my eyes. Actually just the fact that he is going to try proves it as well.
