Toronto Blue Jays Scored Some Runs but Might Lose Jose Reyes

Jose Reyes Blue Jays

Someone on Twitter, and others elsewhere said that life just isn’t fair. That is especially true for the Toronto Blue Jays tonight. They came into the series with the Kansas City Royals with a 3-5 record good enough to get them at the bottom of the American League East. This team that spent a lot of money and traded a lot of people to win games just isn’t winning yet.

That isn’t the most unfair thing about tonight’s game however. Tonight things started going well in some areas. They even scored eight runs on their way to a big win over the Royals. It is hard for any Jays fan to celebrate though after what happened to their best player this season, Jose Reyes.

Reyes was stealing second base and had it stolen basically before the pitch hit the catcher’s mitt. He took an awkward slide at the end and his spike got caught in the dirt. The resulting twist of his ankle did not look good. The amount of pain he was in is probably the scariest part for everyone involved.

I’m no doctor but it looked like a very serious injury, though I won’t speculate how serious. There are a lot of painful things you can do to an ankle that won’t take eight months to heal. The first reports are that it is a type of sprain but he will go for further tests. Let fans of the Jays and otherwise hope that Reyes, by some miracle, is okay. The Blue Jays need him very badly right now. As they try to get some wins under their belt and R.A. Dickey gets amped up about pitching better, a loss like Reyes is not what they need. At this point we can only wait, hope and pray for the best for Reyes.
