Brandon Maurer’s First Win Leads Seattle Mariners in Right Direction
The Seattle Mariners haven’t exactly been lighting the world on fire this year except for a homer streak or two. There is good news however. No one is really running away with the American League West. That isn’t something that is exactly shocking to most probably but the Mariners have a real chance to turn things around and get momentum rolling in their favor. Brandon Maurer helped that situation improve even more by earning his first major league victory against the Texas Rangers.
No one has walked away with the division but the Rangers are certainly a tough team and they are in the mix. Maurer didn’t have an easy line-up to face. He wasn’t perfect by any means but he kept the team in the game and his offense picked him up for his first career W. The festivities that came afterwards included a strange forced shower with ice-water, milk and apparently ketchup. I guess you kind of had to be there but I’m really glad I wasn’t.
Regardless, this is the kind of thing that a team really can build around. There are positive and negative happenings that can meld a team together but this is a really good one. It shows that Maurer can get the job done and it gives both the team and Maurer confidence in his next time out. Instead of wondering when he would get it all together, the Mariners will just get in the field behind him and play ball. This win was as big of a deal for the Mariners going forward as it was for Maurer himself. Congrats to both.
