Cincinnati Reds Skid Goes from Bad to Worse with Johnny Cueto Injury
There is a ton of a evidence that supports the fact that I am not a psychic. Clearly that doesn’t surprise anyone. However when I mentioned in a recent article that the Cincinnati Reds were as good as any team in Major League Baseball, I didn’t know I was jinxing them. Since that time the Reds have been in quite a skid that continued against the Pittsburgh Pirates last night and tonight.
This team is not playing up to their ability. Whether it is just natural for them to hit a swell like this and then come back out of it, I can’t say. What I can say is that what potentially happened today would be much worse than any small skid of bad games. Reds ace starter Johnny Cueto had to leave the game after 4.1 innings with soreness in his triceps. They say that his leaving immediately was a precaution but I can’t help wondering what they are taking precaution against.
Cueto is a huge stopper for this Reds team. He took down Stephen Strasburg and was really pitching very well on Saturday before he had to leave. If Cueto happens to miss a few weeks, that will be a tough few weeks for the Reds. If it is going to be longer than that then they might be in serious trouble. We can all hope that Cueto is fine and good enough to make his next scheduled start. With any luck he will be raring to go in the few days he has off between starts.
