Though they have not had any lengthy winning streaks and are not resting easy with the best record in Major League Baseball, the Detroit Tigers might be one of the scariest teams right now in baseball. They are tied for first place with the much improved Kansas City Royals and have done a fine job scoring runs this year. In recent games however something is happening. The long ball appears to be returning to the Tigers lineup.
Prince Fielder has had really good year anyway but is certainly beginning to feel the sweet swing slice through homers once again. Miguel Cabrera is playing better every single day and it is only a matter of time before his consistent homerun swing returns full force. Austin Jackson and Torii Hunter are not cooling down as their slugging buddies warm up. Basically it appears that this first place defending American League champion Tigers team is getting better every week if not every day.
That should get every manager in the AL Central on their game quick. The Tigers are not out of reach by any means. What other teams had better do is figure out how to make sure they have themselves playing their best baseball as well. It might be the only way to keep up with the Tigers over the next few weeks if they really start playing together extremely well. I feel like as the weather warms they will heat up as well. If that is true then this Tigers team might be quite a bit better than last year’s and that is saying something.
