The up and down year for the Cleveland Indians has not been good enough to get them in the lead of the American League Central but it hasn’t been bad enough to land them in the cellar either. Some guys have been good here and there but no one really has been consistently great except for one run producer that seems to produce greatly every season almost and yet remain under the radar. Mark Reynolds provided once again for the Indians today in a huge way.
Chris Sale, the ace starter for the Chicago White Sox is not one of those big name pitchers that aren’t worth the money. Sale is the real deal. That said, Reynolds was the real deal today when he clocked a grand slam over the left field wall to put the Sox and Sale away early. As is often the case with Reynolds, the pitch wasn’t that bad, he just put a great swing on it. Those are the hitters that scare most any pitcher out there once in a while. Reynolds will hit pitchers mistakes but certainly doesn’t require a mistake to drive in runs.
The list of guys that hit Slams off of Sale isn’t exactly long and I don’t think names will be added to it monthly. Make no mistake about it; getting such a huge hit off of a pitcher like that speaks volumes to the ability and the confidence of Reynolds. Quietly he is a leader on this team and is quickly becoming the one the team can look to for a big hit when they need one. He can hit any pitcher out of any park at any time.
