The St. Louis Cardinals have owned the NL Central for quite some time and I know they’re still looking at getting better. With all the David Price to Chicago Cubs rumors, is it possible the Cardinals could try and block that trade by making a very good offer to the Rays for Price? I absolutely think this could happen if they feel David Price would put them over the top.
The Cardinals have arguably the best prospect in the minors, Oscar Taveras to headline a deal and a few very good complimentary pieces like Trevor Rosenthal and Kolten Wong the Rays could be interested in.
When it comes down to it, prospects are just that- prospect.s. They have high ceilings but the reality of the situation is that most prospects fail and never live up to their expectations. I believe that when franchise changing players become available, and the team could afford the salary, they’re well worth the risk as that player can lead the team to world series glory.
I love what the Cardinals are doing in their system, but it’s David Price. Price with Adam Wainwright and Shelby Miller? Holy smokes. That’s a rotation that will be feared for years to come.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Rays leverage Price against multiple teams and get the best deal possible. I would also love to see the Cubs and Cardinals get in a bidding war for one of baseball’s best. That would be outstanding for the game.
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
