Patrick Corbin was making his first career start against his favorite team growing up, who was the New York Yankees. The way he pitched on Thursday night against the Yankees, they will be glad to never see him pitch again in the Bronx.

Corbin is a rookie starting pitcher for Arizona Diamondbacks this season, but he pitched like a seasoned veteran in this game facing the Yankees. Corbin was able to mix his pitches effectively, and he did a terrific job of changing speeds with his fastball and slider.

This is important because when a pitcher is able to change speeds with his pitches, he does not give opposing hitters a chance to feel comfortable at the plate. The Yankees in the game did not look comfortable at all with the way Corbin was pitching to them.

Another thing that Corbin did great in this start was that he established command of his fastball in the beginning of the game. This was one area that he worked hard on in spring training, and it has showed in his three starts this season.

Corbin had a game plan to locate his pitches down in the strike zone with great accuracy, and this worked to his advantage in this game.

The Yankees were forced to swing at theses pitches down in the strike zone, because he established a tone early in the game of throwing strikes.

The best thing about the way Corbin pitches is that, he is aggressive in his approach of attacking hitters. He will only get better with more experience as he learns to make adjustments.
