Houston Astros: Robbie Grossman Gets the Call
In last night’s game, Houston Astros‘ center fielder Justin Maxwell was hit on the hand and was pulled from the game. There was no word on the extent of his injury until after the game. Maxwell was taken in for X-rays and unfortunately, he has been placed on the 15-day DL with a broken hand. Taking his spot on the 25-man roster will be outfield prospect Robbie Grossman.
For the Astros, losing Maxwell could pose a problem, but I love Grossman. I have been pulling for this kid, and I really hope he can stick. Grossman has been getting on base at an awesome rate, and he’s been hitting really well down at Triple-A Oklahoma City.
He provides the Astros with something they haven’t had yet this season, and that is a true leadoff man. Grossman sees a ton of pitches and really makes the pitchers work.
If Grossman can get on in front of Jose Altuve, who I think is an ideal No. 2 hitter, it could become pretty nasty for starting pitchers in the first inning. With the way Jason Castro has been hitting the ball lately, the Astros could drive in a couple of early-inning runs. Believe it or not, the Astros offense ranks eighth among all American League teams, so there are quite a few teams with a worse offense than the Astros.
Though they’re losing Maxwell, I believe this offense could actually get better with the call-up of Grossman. I personally can’t wait to watch him play.
