The New York Yankees are off to a solid start this season. After starting the season with Curtis Granderson, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira on the DL, things did not look too promising in the Bronx. However, players such as Vernon Wells and Travis Hafner have really stepped up and have helped this team win.

A big factor that will give us an idea of how good the Yankees are this season will be if they can get through April. Curtis Granderosn and Mark Teixeira are expected back in May. Another thing that I am satisfied with is the pitching. Andy Pettitte, Hiroki Kuroda and CC Sabathia have been solid. I am still waiting for Phil Hughes to pick things up and I really do not know about Ivan Nova anymore.

There have been certain players who have contributed to the Yankees’ start. Robinson Cano is on fire and Travis Hafner is also off to a very good start. I had my doubts when the Yankees first signed Hafner but he has provided clutch hits in key situations. I am hoping that he could be this year’s Raul Ibanez.

The Yankees’ pitching has been led by Hiroki Kuroda and Andy Pettitte. I was a bit concerned about Pettitte, considering his age, but he is off to a good start. To me, Kuroda is the Yankees’ most reliable starting pitcher.

What I have decided to do is make a slideshow of the five Yankees who I think are off to the best start.

Robinson Cano

A .322 batiing average, 7 home runs and 17 RBIs. Cano is certainly off to a hot start and could be this year's MVP.

Vernon Wells

One of the biggest surprises of the season. With six home runs and 11 RBIs, he's doing a good job of filling in for Curtis Granderson.

Travis Hafner

Another surprise. His five home runs and 10 RBIs are better than what I expected at this point. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Hiroki Kuroda

The most reliable pitcher on the team. Kuroda has a solid 2.79 ERA and his durability is very good for the Yankees. One of my favorite players.

Andy Pettitte

3-1 with a 2.22 ERA. You would not think that Andy is 40 with the way that he's been pitching. It would be great if he can continue to pitch strong because pitching will be key to the Yankees' success.
