I don’t know if you have been paying attention to the Seattle Mariners but if you haven’t, you might want to glance their way. At least once or twice a week just check on them and see where they are. If your team is not the Mariners but is in the American League West, you might want to check on them more often than that. They have won seven of the last ten games and Saturday they beat up R.A. Dickey and the Toronto Blue Jays for their third straight win.

It isn’t a secret that Dickey has had his struggles this season. I thought he might have a tougher time in the American League just based solely on the fact that he struggled in the AL before he went to the New York Mets. The Mariners gave struggling a new meaning for Dickey tonight. They have taken their timely hitting and good pitching philosophy and jacked up the hitting portion of it.

Against Dickey they touched off for seven runs in six innings off of six hits. Three of those six hits were homers and the final was 8 – 1. This win had some to do with Dickey’s struggles to be sure but it also has a lot to do with how well the Mariners are playing. They have a little ways to go if they plan to catch the Texas Rangers but they most certainly are playing good enough to do it. If they can continue to play this well, it will begin to look very crowded at the top of the American League West very soon.
