Atlanta Braves Have the Good Kind of Offensive Outbreak Sunday
As impressive as the Atlanta Braves offense had been early in the season, it has been just that disappointing for the last couple of weeks. Not surprisingly that has resulted in a stretch of games the Braves struggled to win. It was the kind of stretch where every pitcher seems to throw his best stuff on the night the Braves came to town. Sunday that ended however in a really good way against the New York Mets.
It was a bigger game because of the rainout on Saturday. The Braves lost a heartbreaker on Friday so they really needed a win on Sunday. It took a few innings but when they finally broke through on Sunday it was in exactly the way they needed to. They scored five runs without one single homer in the third inning. Freddie Freeman had one of his big hits of the day during that inning as did Reed Johnson. And yes, Dan Uggla and B.J. Upton both on base a couple of times during the game.
No doubt, this is the kind of offensive game that leads to the offense getting things back together. The x-factor in their offensive rebirth will be the return of starting all-star catcher Brian McCann who will be active and ready to play in Cincinnati against the Cincinnati Reds. They very well might struggle offensively for another month but chances are that they will begin to get things together starting with the way they played today. It’s just the kind of feel good offensive day that gets everyone going a little bit.
