Cleveland Indians Win Streak Snapped but Carlos Santana Stays Hot
After losing to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday the Cleveland Indians six game win streak was snapped. Their positive momentum continues however as they prepare to play the tough Oakland Athletics in a four game series starting Monday. A lot of things went right for the Indians as they do for any team on a winning streak but one thing that went well then, before the streak and even in the loss on Sunday was Carlos Santana.
The Indians catcher is first or second on the team in every offensive category except for stolen bases. His .379 batting average leads the Indians and his power continues to be on display. Sunday he struck again bringing his total to 6 homers and 14 RBI for the season. While that RBI number isn’t near the top of the American League, it is second on the team and he also has scored 17 runs in addition to that.
With Michael Bourn about ready to begin rehabbing on his way back to the team, the Indians are riding Santana’s hot and fairly consistent bat among other things in their pursuit of the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals. The way the tribe is playing, I wouldn’t be surprised if another hot stretch of wins began with the game on Monday. Though the A’s are a hard team to beat, the Indians are playing well enough to take the series for sure. Before long, if they keep playing the way they are playing and guys like Santana keep producing, they will have their chance at the top spot.
