Entering the Philadelphia Phillies’ games against the Miami Marlins, Roy Halladay was 2-3 and struggled in a majority of his starts. His start against the Marlins ended up being just as horrible as previous starts. Halladay lasted 2.1 innings and gave up nine earned runs on four hits.
All game his pitching looked ineffective and he was having trouble finding his intended spots. It seemed like something was wrong with Halladay’s arm or shoulder. It really didn’t matter why Halladay was pitching so poorly, but his struggles this season continued on yet again.
After the game, it was revealed that Halladay had shoulder soreness. According to reports, it is a new soreness that has progressed over the last few weeks.
“It’s not something that I had before,” Halladay said, according to USA Today. “It’s something new this year. I felt good all spring. I had soreness in there and just wasn’t able to get rid of it. I woke up and didn’t really think anything of it, just regular soreness. It has kind of progressed over the last two weeks or so.”
Phillies GM Rueben Amaro chimed in on the issue and noted that Halladay will most likely head to the disabled list. It will be better for the Phillies that Halladay heads to the DL and tries to get this soreness looked at and fixed.
Through his starts so far this season, it was clearly apparent that this new soreness is affecting his command. He hasn’t been able to accurately locate the ball which he usually does not have an issue doing.
“I have a hard time watching him struggle,” Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said, “Usually when he’s on, he has great location. That’s the kind of pitcher he is.”
