We all knew going into the season that these four guys would be part of one of the toughest line-ups in the history of baseball. If one article was written about them, a dozen were. Now we have seen the Detroit Tigers prove they really do have the best foursome of any batting order in recent memory. Wait, you didn’t know this was the team with the best foursome? Oh that’s right; everyone thought the Los Angeles Angels would have the greatest line-up. Well, I guess that’s why they play the games.
No disrespect to Mike Trout, Josh Hamilton, Albert Pujols and Mark Trumbo but they don’t hold a candle to the Tigers big four. Austin Jackson, Torii Hunter, Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder are emerging as one of the best foursomes stacked together in history. Their totals so far are 162 hits, a batting average of roughly .335, 97 runs scored, 29 doubles, 3 triples, 17 homers and 94 RBI. Let me pause while we read over those once again.
The four of them are the top four on the team in most of those categories. Of the 94 RBI, Cabrera has 36 and Fielder has 32. I’m telling you, if I had to pick one team for my favorite pitcher not to face it would be the Detroit Tigers without question. The Angels honestly aren’t even in the running for that. They have struggled too much and have had too little output from their big bats. The Tigers are doing every bit as well as they did last year and the addition of the resurgent Torii Hunter seems to have been the boost that sent this offense to the next level. They aren’t just good folks, they are scary.
