It is Time Dan Uggla Haters Gave Him Credit Where Credit is Due
If I have heard it once I’ve heard it a million times. Dan Uggla is the worst free agent signing ever for the Atlanta Braves. Uggla can’t hit or Uggla always struggles. Funny nicknames surface to poke fun at the man as he has struggled the last couple of years. I understand the need to be a passionate fan and let your voice be heard. Now it is time to even that score. Uggla is playing much better of late and his bat has been clutch and huge at times. Where are those Uggla haters now? He deserves credit for beginning to work this stuff out.
Well if no one else will do it, I will. Uggla is in the midst of a 7-game hit streak in which he has 10 hits, 10 runs scored, 3 homers and 4 RBI. Over that stretch he is batting at a .370 clip and as I said has come through in clutch situations. Don’t believe me? Okay believe this two out slash line: .364/.462/.818/1.280. In case you don’t see it, Uggla has a .364 batting average and .818 slugging percentage this year in 19 at-bats with two outs. He also has 3 homers and 3 RBI with two outs in the inning.
Is that enough for the man to get some credit for a change? Listen, I know he has struggled for a few years and he knows it better than anyone. I’m not saying that this hitting streak is going to cure all ills or even set his season perfectly right. He might struggle yet again and he might go on to hit 30 homers and knock in 75 runs. Either way, for all of the slamming that has been sent his way, he deserves some credit for working things out right now and encouragement to keep up the good work. I for one appreciate his working on his game and getting better. Way to go Dan Uggla!
