The last week has been good to a few teams that weren’t doing so hot before. One of those is the Seattle Mariners who won Sunday to win the series against the Oakland Athletics all in all the weekend series was a good showing for the Mariners as they head into a series against the New York Yankees on Tuesday. As good as the Mariners are playing, they are going to need some individuals to show if they plan to win this series.

Two individuals in particular are the ones I had in mind with that statement. One is Hisashi Iwakuma and the other is Felix Hernandez. Wednesday Iwakuma will go to the hill and face off against the Yankees and Phil Hughes. Hughes isn’t having the best year though he is solid. If Iwakuma pitches to his ability, reference the 4 – 1 record and the 1.74 ERA, he should be able to get passed the Yankees.

What will be a little closer or should be I should say is the Tuesday match-up of aces between Hernandez and C.C. Sabathia of the Yanks. I don’t know if you have looked but Hernandez is doing it again this season. He is almost at 60 innings already, having pitched eight innings four times. His record is 5 – 2 with a 1.56 ERA and 0.90 WHIP. I’m sure it would have been nice for a few people if Hernandez would have come in stinking it up this season. Sorry, he isn’t and the M’s need him to step up against Sabathia.
