The Texas Rangers start a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics tonight in Oakland. This should be an interesting series with some early season divisional implications. The Rangers are first place in the American League West right now and they are six games above the A’s.
In game 1, Justin Grimm will pitch against A.J. Griffin. Grimm has slowed down since his incredible start. In his first three starts, he gave up just three earned runs. But in his last two, he has given up a combined eight. Griffin has been okay this season with a three-and-three record and a 3.83 ERA. This game will be a good match up but I think the A’s will win this one.
Game 2 will be between Derek Holland and Bartolo Colon. Holland has been very good in his last two starts giving up just one earned run in 15 innings. Colon on the other hand has given up nine runs in his last two starts totaling just nine and a third innings. I say the Rangers take game two.
The final game in the series will see a matchup of Alexi Ogando and Dan Straily. Straily looked pretty bad in his last start against the Seattle Mariners giving up six runs in five innings. He has only made four starts this season, so there is not a whole lot else to go off of. Ogando has been passable in his last few starts averaging about six innings and two runs in his last three. I think the Rangers take the final game in this series.
If the Rangers do win two out of three like I am predicting, they will really start to run away with this decision.
