Arizona Diamondbacks Paul Goldschmidt Paces Offense vs. Miami Marlins

Steve Mitchell-USA Today Sports

The Arizona Diamondbacks’ biggest concern this season has been their failure to score runs on a consistent basis. This has led them to have too many close games, which has put pressure on the starting rotation and the bullpen to perform well.

The best thing that could have happened to Arizona is a weekend series with the Miami Marlins.  They have the worst run differential in the NL at -73, and have given up 188 runs this season.

The Diamondbacks have, at different times this season, looked good on offense and then there would be other occasions they would appear inept on offense. However, there is one individual that has not had any issues on offense and that would be their young first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.

He was the heart of the scoring in this game against the Marlins.  The past couple of games he has been on a tear for Arizona offensively, as indicated by his .338/.421/1.077 triple-slash on the season.

The last season for them, Arizona had him hit fifth in the batting order and this was to not put too much pressure on him, as it was his first full season in MLB.

This season things are a little different and he is hitting third in the line up for them. The reason for this is that the Diamondbacks have had some injuries to key players on offense and they needed someone to lead them on offense.

Luckily for Arizona, Goldschmidt was ready to take on the challenge of being the leader on offense and is primed for a big season.
