The Toronto Blue Jays are coming off of a series against the New York Yankees where they lost the first two games easily, and were lucky as the third game was postponed due to poor weather. R.A. Dickey was supposed to pitch yesterday, but with the cancellation of the game, his start has been pushed to today as he will open the three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Rogers Centre.
Before their series against the Yankees, the Jays were playing their best baseball of the season. For the first time all year they had won four consecutive games, and two straight series. But like a lot of teams, their hot streak ended in New York against the surging Yankees.
If the Jays want to have any chance at the playoffs this year, they’ll have to forget the tough losses and bounce back as soon as possible, and there’s no better way to do that than against your divisional rivals at home.
It will be an afternoon game in Toronto today as Canada will be celebrating Victoria Day. Dickey will look for his second straight win as he’ll go up against 23-year-old Jake Odorizzi, who is making his Rays debut. Odorizzi will make his third career start, and was a main piece of the James Shields trade.
It will be a tough series for the Jays as the Rays are coming off of a weekend sweep against the Baltimore Orioles, and have 12 wins in their last 17 appearances in Canada.
