New York Yankees Have Been the Surprise of the Season
The New York Yankees, who are currently 28-16, have been the most surprising team in baseball so far this season. To the surprise of many, including myself, the Yankees are in first place in the American League East. Nevertheless, I could not be happier with how the Yankees are playing.
At the beginning of the season, MLB experts were saying that the Yankees will be lucky if they finish higher than fourth in the division. You really can’t blame them for this. The Yankees began the season with Mark Teixeira, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson on the DL. The pitching was questionable and the other teams in the AL East did more to improve their team during the offseason than the Yankees did.
The Yankees are the one’s having the last laugh. Unlikely contributors such as Vernon Wells and Lyle Overbay have stepped up, and Mariano Rivera is perfect in save opportunities so far. You would never think that he is 43.
The Yankees are 19-0 when scoring first this season. That is incredible, and goes to show you that the team knows how to hold on to a lead.
It is really great how the Yankees have persevered during the first two months of the season. It seems that a player goes on the DL every week, but that does not stop the team from winning. When the big bats come back, this team should only be better.
I applaud how this team has performed under pressure. I do not see this team fading any time soon and if things continue to be this way, fans will be in for a fun summer.
