Toronto Blue Jays: Jose Bautista Unstoppable in Win
After a terrible start to the season, the Toronto Blue Jays have turned things around a bit of late. While they are still in a big hole, fans have to have plenty of hope if Jose Bautista continues hitting like he has in May.
Bautista absolutely dominated Tampa Bay Rays pitching to lead the Jays to a walk-off victory Wednesday. The slugger went 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs, including the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning.
He drove in all four runs for the Jays starting with a single in the first inning, adding a solo home run in the fourth and hit the game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth to force extras before ending the game himself.
While Bautista has “just” four home runs in May, he already has 11 RBIs and has been almost impossible to retire with an OBP around .460 and an OPS sniffing 1.000. Most of his power came in April with seven home runs, but he managed a meager .302 OBP and .200 average in that month while the Jays struggled.
Bautista is the key in the lineup along with Edwin Encarnacion, but guys like Adam Lind, J.P. Arencibia and Brett Lawrie will have to play better in order for the Jays to have continued success.
The team is still nine games back in the American League East, but they have won six of their last nine games, four of which have come within the division. Should Bautista continue to hit like the star that he can be, the Jays will hang around as the season heats up.
