Are Boston Red Sox Class of American League East?

For what seems like forever the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees have taken turns being the best team in the American League’s Eastern division. Though there are other players on the fringe just like every year, it appears to be more of the same for 2013. Of the two of the powerhouse teams it is kind of up in the air who might be the best team so far as they have switched leads a time or two. I think the Red Sox are the class of the division however and should have an even larger lead than they do.

That lead actually isn’t large at all. The Yanks are barely more than a game out, the Baltimore Orioles are only 3.5 back and even the Tampa Bay Rays are closer at 5 games than some second place teams this year. Having said all of that I still think the Sox are the team to beat in the AL East. They have gotten good to great pitching from their starters and the bullpen seems to be holding their own right now. Whatever issues the pitching staff could have are healed very well by the great performance by the offense lately.

Good pitching staff, powerful offense at times and a decent bullpen seems to be the formula needed to win this division. I could be wrong and the Orioles could take charge, especially if their starting pitching staff gets worked out. For now I think the Sox are the ones that will take it in the end. I believe the somewhat surprising Yanks will fade as the year goes on, the O’s will get stronger but not strong enough to beat the Red Sox.
