Oakland Athletics are Running Down First Place Texas Rangers
For most of the 2013 season the Texas Rangers have been the clear cut best team in Major League Baseball. That isn’t true anymore record wise but they are still very formidable to say the least. It seemed unthinkable just a couple of weeks ago that anyone could run them down for the American League West first place position. The Oakland Athletics are doing the unthinkable though and have almost completely run down the Rangers and first place.
How they have done it is a mixture of many things. Look at their last ten games and you will see they are 8 – 2 over that time. The Rangers are not near that good over the last ten. To get an idea of the way this is going for the Athletics, take a look at the division on May 15. At that time the Rangers had a seven game lead over the A’s. Seven games at that time seemed extremely daunting and it most certainly was. Here we are a couple of weeks later and they are only two games back.
They have their pitching and hitting to thank of course but they also should thank the Rangers for hitting their first slump of the season. If the upward trend of the A’s and the downward trend of the Rangers continues there will be a big change in first place in the AL west within a week. Chances are once the Rangers sense just how close the A’s are, things will change a little. Still it is quite impressive just how fast the A’s have caught the Rangers. It could be that they are much more the class of the division than anyone knew.
