Saturday was just what the doctor ordered for the Colorado Rockies. With a 10th inning walk-off single from Dexter Fowler, the Rockies evened their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers setting up the rubber match for Sunday in Colorado.
The win could potentially have done more for the Rockies than keep them on pace with the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants. The team has struggled lately taking advantage of opportunities and coming through with timely hits. On Saturday, the Rockies did both, and although it is only one game, the possibility to build off of the win is present.
Of other significant importance was that the Rockies got solid innings out of Matt Belisle and Rex Brothers to keep the game tied allowing for the win. Belisle and Brothers will be leaned on heavily by Colorado with usual closer Rafael Betancourt headed for a DL stint.
The Rockies will also welcome back a familiar face to the bullpen Manny Corpas, who was a huge part of the Rockies reaching the World Series in 2007, returns to Colorado.
With the win, Colorado finds themselves tied with the Giants 2.5 games back of NL West-leading Diamondbacks. They will wrap up their series with Los Angeles Sunday as they send the red-hot Jorge De La Rosa to the mound in the rubber match. Following the Dodgers game Sunday, the Rockies will again hit the road, this time facing the Cincinnati Reds.
