Houston Astros — Is This the Start of a Revolution?

Now that’s a team playing to its full strength.

The Houston Astros are on a run that harkens back to the days of the Killer B’s, a satisfying discovery of coming through late in games rather than throwing them away. It seems that Bo Porter’s lads have found something in themselves.

The power of the Astros’ bats has never been up for debate. Nowadays, rather than always approaching the plate with an immaturity void of consideration, the hitting squad is batting with intelligence. Moving runners around the bases, planting RBI singles, scaring pitchers — these have become the reborn Astros’ methods.

Even Lucas Harrell, who has had a nervous season, fired away at the Los Angeles Angels with gusto. The team’s starters have struggled all season long, but something in the last couple of weeks has boosted the pitchers who approached the mound with losing records to fight, to perform, to show why they’re major leaguers.

The Astros are riding a wave of strong performances, having won five in a row. The streak is as good as any team’s this year, and is something that opponents wouldn’t typically associate with the previously ailing Astros, who still possess the poorest record in the league.

Is the streak just good luck? Delve into the numbers of the youngsters, and you’ll see that none has had anything you might consider a prodigious season. What the numbers do not show is an air of determination, an unlikely cloud of good fortune that you can only see by watching them play.

The kids have arrived, and they want everyone to know it.
