While some of the pitching staff has struggled at times, Kyle Kendrick has found success on the mound for the Philadelphia Phillies. Most Phillies fans were surprised by Kendrick’s dominant pitching in April, but his winning ways continued into May.
Now as we begin June and the Phillies are three games below .500, Kendrick looks to do his part to help Philadelphia move up in the standings. In his last start against the Miami Marlins this season, Kendrick went seven innings and struck out five while giving up two earned runs.
After commanding performances by Cliff Lee and Dominic Brown to avoid being swept, the Phillies look to keep the winning ways going. This series against the Marlins is a great opportunity to keep winning, but Philadelphia cannot take them for granted. The team seemed to have taken the games against the low-lying Milwaukee Brewers for granted and it almost got them swept.
A majority of Kendrick’s starts this season have been solid, and Monday’s start should be no different. If he can get off to a fast start against the Marlins and the bats come alive like Sunday, then the Phillies should have no problem sweeping the Marlins.
However, the pitching and hitting has struggled this season, so we will have to see which team shows up. Will the real Phillies show up tonight, or will the pitching staff struggle and not hold on because a lack of hitting?
