This year is another struggling year for the Miami Marlins. They have had enough of those over the last several years that they continue to have an abundance of draft picks. With the MLB Draft coming up this Thursday through the weekend the Marlins are tasked with making wise picks in order to improve the standing of their farm system and thereby, the future of their franchise. The pressure is on with all of those picks this season because there aren’t any slam dunk picks. There could be a dozen Hall-of-Famers in the rough but finding one is more difficult than it is in a rich draft year.
That doesn’t make their job any less important though. The staff of the Marlins must take care in looking at the players they pick. Having so many will be an advantage in one way since they will actually have more chances to make wise picks. Still, the fact that they could set their franchise up for the better part of a decade with a load of good picks really makes one realize how big this draft could be for a team like the Marlins.
They won’t win the World Series this year. They do have hope with the many good young players they already have in their system. With a good draft this year they could add to that positive trend and give hope to their already frustrated fans. I’m sure for the last year the Marlins staff have been searching long and tirelessly for the perfect fit for their future franchise. The fact that they still have to gamble at the many picks they have is one of the most exciting and dreadful parts of the MLB Draft.
